Dear RiverRun Families,
The children are working hard during Writers’
Workshop. The Authors’ Tea stories are
really coming along. We are planning on
presenting the stories to you in early May.
Spring is here, now we just need some pleasant weather! Michael’s father, Alex, came into the class
on Monday to talk to us about Baba Marta,
a Bulgarian holiday which ushers in Spring.
Folklore tells of a grumpy old lady, Baba Marta (Grandma March), who can
send winter away if she is pleased. Traditionally
people exchange and wear martenitsi,
small adornments made of red and white yarn symbolizing luck, health and
fertility. Alex showed us how to make
bracelets out of red and white yarn. Today
we made red and white yarn dolls, both traditional gifts.
On Tuesday Rosemary Renaud of the Scotia-Glenville
Children’s Museum presented The Age of
Dinosaurs. She brought with her some
great fossils, books, puzzles, and a digging activity. At the end of the presentation as we walked
back to the classroom Rachel held a dinosaur head cut out and we all walked
along the length of the temple holding a string to get an idea of how long a
dinosaur could be. It was so long we ran
out of walking room! A few websites the
museum suggested for the children to look at are www.kidsdomain.com/brain/dino.com,
www.dinosauria.com, www.bbc.co.uk/dinosaurs .
Dates to Remember:
March 22 2:00-4:00 open house
April 3-10 no

April 16 9:30-11:30 open house
Happy Spring,
Amy and Rachel
