Dear RiverRun Families,
We were
all happy to see our classroom pets.
Thank you to Nathaniel and his family for taking care of Lizzy and to
Ava and her family for caring for Hopper and Moss over break.
After
writing a description of their favorite dinosaurs, the children sculpted clay
dinosaurs. Once all the children are
finished they will show each other their work and descriptions.
Our worms
are well feed. It is our hope that they
reproduce quickly. We need more worms to
breakdown all the scraps we are giving them.
We have been weighing our compost prior to adding it to the worm
bucket. Sometime we weigh the scraps in
kilograms other times we weigh in ounces.
This is a great way for the children to visually see what a portion of
food looks like in both kgs. and oz.
This week
we continued our study of our Earth. We
talked about the mantle and the crust.
I used a piece of foam pad to represent the mantle and rocks for the
crust. After this demonstration we
talked about the tectonic plates and the different types of
movement on Earth. The first type of boundary between tectonic plates we
discussed was divergent boundaries,
plates that move apart. An example was
the Rio Grand Rift.
During Spanish lessons this week we learned
how to ask each other what the date is and how to respond up to the number
15. We continue to practice all we have
learned as we greet each other in the morning.
Upcoming Dates:
March 2-3 – No School (parent-teacher conferences)March 12-13 - No School (AMS conference in Philadelphia)
