Lower Elementary Newsletter - February 6, 2015

2/6/15

Dear RiverRun Families,

The children had a great time at Union College last week learning about geology.  Professor Frey and the student volunteers put together a nice program, including some wonderful hands-on activities about volcanoes and rocks. We are so lucky to have this resource so close to us. Thank you to all the families that drove in the snow.

This week we talked about Belgium.  We thought it was interesting that this small country speaks so many languages.   Road signs and town and city names are in French and Flemish.  Belgium boarders Germany, so they speak German too!

The children learned about the Belgium artist Rene Magritte.  He was a Surrealist artist.  We enjoyed some of his very creative, dreamlike, paintings.  The children used their remarkable imaginations to create their own surreal paintings.

Many of the children have been working in their Trophy readers.  The Second Years had lessons on regular and irregular polygons.  Everyone is researching a dinosaur they find interesting and making lists of fitting adjectives to describe.

Upcoming Dates:

February 8 - Open House 2:00-4:00

February 16-20 – No School (Winter break)

March 2-3 – No School (parent-teacher conferences)

March 12-13 - No School (AMS conference in Philadelphia)

Best Wishes,

Amy and Rachel
