Dear RiverRun Families,
This
week we started exploring South America, starting with Peru. We learned that the Andes Mountain Range divides;
on one side, desert and the other tropical rain forest. We are also looking at the Incan
civilization, whose roots can be traced to a small tribe in the Cuzco Valley.
Sean
found a pill bug in the classroom. We
took the opportunity to take a closer look at this crustacean (like a shrimp). It has 14 legs and the children noticed that
it was like a rolly polly, but different because it did not roll up like the
ones they normally see. A rolly polly is
also called a pill bug or a potato bug.
Interesting! We set our pill bug
free after we observed it.
The
Authors’ Tea stories are going well.
Rachel and I are working individually with the children, helping them
edit and expand on their ideas. Once all
the stories are complete, I will work with families to find a good date and
time to hold the Tea.
The
RiverRun camping weekend is upon us. If
you do not plan to stay and camp please consider joining the group on
Friday. It is considered a school day
and we will have planned activities as well as a pot luck lunch. Other members of the community are coming up
for the day and some may want to carpool.
If you need help arranging a carpool please call and I will help.
Have
a Joyous weekend,
Amy
and Rachel
