Dear Families:
The most important thing you need to know is that we will not be travelling to The Wild Center on Thursday, May 22. One of our classmates will be out of town on that day. Debbie has been given two new dates. They are:
Monday, June 2 (This is the day after our RiverRun camping weekend. We won’t be too tired!)
Monday, June 16 (We really don’t want to wait this long, but if it’s our only option, we’ll take it!)
Please let Debbie know as soon as possible if either of these dates will not work for your child/children.
We will be taking the bus to the Schenectady Public Library on Monday, May 19. We are going to attend a presentation on Emily Dickinson. We’ll return our science fiction books, select books on poets and poetry, attend the presentation and eat lunch at the library. We’ll return to school after lunch in time for our music class. Our bus passes still have money on them. Those of us that bring $3.00 each time we travel to Schenectady will need to do that.
We have all been working hard on different math skills. The fourth years are working on decimals. Some of the fifth years are dividing fractions and others are solving algebraic equations.
We are reading My Daniel by Pam Conrad for our novel study. In the first chapter we met Julia Creath Summerwaite. We discussed her personality and physical traits. For our first journal entry we compared Julia with one of our own grandmothers. Debbie thinks we did a great job on this assignment.
At the end of the day on Friday, we started to write limericks about our classmates. We each drew a classmate’s name. Needless to say, the last half hour of our day was filled with laughter.
Have a great weekend,
Debbie & Sleuths
