Dear
RiverRun Families,
I want to start out by thanking some
parents who have been volunteering their time to us recently. Marie, Patricia’s mom, has been putting
together communications regarding up coming field trips. The last five weeks of school are busy
ones. She was asked to do this on short
notice and we are so thankful. Fatima
has been in the class the past few days typing the Authors’ Tea stories with
the children, The children are so happy to have their stories typed and ready
to illustrate. We are very close to
completing all the stories. Liz,
Michael’s mom, often comes in on Thursday’s to sit with either class so that
Debbie and I can meet. This week Debbie
I worked on the plans for Friday at the campground. Denise, Noah’s mom, put a fence up to mark
off the wooded area the children can play in.
Meggan, Donald’s mom, often volunteers when she has time and we are
grateful.
This week we talked about the history
of measurement. It is believed that man
measured height and length before weight.
The Egyptians tried to standardize measurement for building purposes by
defining a cubit as the length of the Pharaohs arm (from his elbow to his
middle finger), prior to a cubit could have been anyone’s forearm. We took some time to measure each other and
quickly realized our arm lengths were all different.
Due to the moist conditions Simon was
able to easily find some slugs. We
enjoyed looking at them and hope to spend more time outdoors next school week
looking for bugs. Next week the children
will also finish their illustrations for the Authors’ Tea and I will show them
the script for a skit we will do as a class.
BOCES forms will be sent home for next
year book orders. Please sign them and send
them to BOCES. Jacqui Foster will be
sending an email home with more information.
Enjoy the long weekend,
Amy and Rachel
