5/2/14
Dear RiverRun
Families,
The Elders have been working hard on
double digit dynamic division using both the Golden Beads and the Stamp
Game. They are checking their
answers by multiplying their answers by the dividends. The rest of the class has been learning
simple division using the Golden Beads. The children like division because it
is fair, everyone or thing gets the same amount.
Spelling has returned! Some of the children really like spelling
words. Even though we have not had lists
in the last few months, the children’s spelling has improved! This could be due to all the writing and
editing we are doing with the Authors’ Tea and we did with the State
Reports.
Some
of the Elders will bring home The Facts and Fictions of Minna Pratt this
weekend. They should finish the book and
write questions and comments to share with their peers for discussion.
Simon went to visit a farm and
factory which produced its’ own wool.
Since we were on the topic of where wool comes from, it seemed like a good
time to discuss economic geography. We
talked about where clothes, bread and meat comes from and all the resources
needed to get these goods to the shop.
After learning so much about the States we were also able to identify
some of the States that produce some of these products we were discussing. Sean studied Texas and he knew that Texas is
a big producer of wool since there are so many sheep farms in Texas.
I hope to see you all on Monday
evening at 6:15. Your children will be
giving you some Montessori lessons and you can view the wonderful science
projects the Upper Elementary students have been working on. My daughter Abigail has been so excited to
check on the bacteria she is growing when she gets home from school!
