Upper Elementary Newsletter - February 28, 2014

February 28, 2014

Dear Families:

Hello, I am Liam. I am a member of the Upper L.  I am also a member of Greece, and I am very happy because Greece came in first in the Olympic hockey game tournament.  The U.S.A. came in second, Russia came in third.  It felt like 20 degrees below zero during the hockey tournament.  We could not go to curling because one of the volunteers was ill.

We started studying Marc Chagall. He was a Russian artist. I researched Marc Chagall, and I learned that he liked to use vibrant colors in his art work.  He often painted humans and objects in unusual positions.  Many times the subjects of his work were floating, and sometimes they were up-side down!

We began a compare and contrast essay on Cinderella stories.  Every student in the class picked two Cinderella stories from around the world to read and analyze.  We’ll be working on this project the next few weeks.  We’ve also picked the date of March 31 to have our animal reports completed.

We saw Cool Runnings today.  It was a really funny movie about the Jamaican bobsled team.  We were all talking about our favorite parts at the end of the school day.

Debbie wants everyone to know that the Closing Ceremony for our Olympic simulation will be on Thursday, March 6 at 2:15P.M.  Our curling competition might be this Wednesday from 1:00-2:30P.M.  She’ll let you know as soon as we hear from the curling club.

Finally, we will have Pizza Thursday next week instead of Pizza Friday.   Debbie, Amy and Rachel will be at a conference on Friday.  We should all bring our own lunches next Friday.

From,

Liam & Sleuths
