Upper Elementary Newsletter - January 30, 2015

30 January 2015
Dear Families,

Today we went on a field trip to Union College to learn about volcanos. There we saw rocks from volcanos and minerals.  Professor Holly Frey and students from Union College gave us a tour around the school. The upper elementary started downstairs with the students and the lower elementary went upstairs on the third floor with Professor Frey. Downstairs we worked on something called “can you out run lava?” and we used corn syrup. We first predicted if it went fast or slow if it was hot, cold or if it had a little water or a lot of water or if it had a lot of sand in it or not that much. When all of us were done there we went upstairs and we talked about how some rocks float and some don’t and we all got two rocks and tested them. When we were done we went back downstairs and we all got to see a baking soda and vinegar volcano explode. This week we also are learning about plant and animal cells and we are making a model of a plant and animal cell, we are also each studying a certain cell part.

Sincerely,

Kalia, Tonya, Nancy, Patriots, and Tories
