Dear
RiverRun Families,
This week,
the whole class continued to read and talk about the beginnings of the
Earth. The Clock of Eons was introduced to compliment the Cosmic Lesson
and will lead up to The Time Line of
Life. This clock begins when Earth
was formed with The Great Collision of Proto-Earth and Theia and ends with
man. We looked at the first Eon, the
Hadean, during which the Earth was bombarded by asteroids and comets for about
half a billion years. The heat from this
bombardment left Earth in a molten state in which heavy metals sunk to the
center, pushing aside lighter elements.
This process eventually led to the formation of Earth’s crust. Scientists set the end of the first Eon at 3,800,000,000
years ago.
The First
Years also had a lesson on adjectives. We looked at four different candles and
described them according to color, shape, length and texture. They are able to identify a noun, article,
and adjective within a sentence. In the
classroom we call these three parts of speech The Noun Family. They also
worked on simple subtraction equations using The Subtraction Stripe Board.
The elders are working on division word problems and in grammar they had
a lesson on the adverb. We walked swiftly, slowly, lazily,
enthusiastically and clumsily down the hall.
Rachel gave
a lesson on sculpting with clay to follow
up our study of Michelangelo. She took a picture of David’s face and showed
the children how they could create the curls on his head, eyes, nose, chin, and
cheeks using various techniques. Today
the children worked with air-dry clay to make their own sculptures.
Have an
enjoyable weekend,
Amy, Rachel
and Tonya
