We are very much enjoying the wonderful weather. It is very freeing to
not have to bundle up to go outside. Let us hope we have nice weather
for our trip on Tuesday to Proctors. If it should look like rain please
have your child dress appropriately; we will be taking public
transportation. Each child should bring in $3.00 for bus fare. If your
child is under four feet tall they can ride for free.
At our last field trip to The Egg, we saw Toying with Science and
learned about simple machines. The children have been “toying” with
simple machines in the classroom. The activities have been very popular
and I hope the children have been talking about them at home. We ran
into some trouble with our first pulley; the clamp securing the pulley
overhead kept falling off and the rope constantly jammed. I brought in
a smaller pulley which we clamped to a table and we are now back in
business. This problem gave us an opportunity to look at the
construction of each pulley and why one design was better than the other
for our particular use.
Many of the state reports are in final stages of editing. The goal is
to finish the reports before spring break for the children to bring home
and share with you. We have now started to work on stories for our
annual Authors’ Tea. Your child will write a story using techniques
taught during Writers’ Workshop. In June, we'll hold a tea so the
children can read their stories aloud to the entire Community. The
children really look forward to this event, which is a good opportunity
to practice public speaking. We keep all the previous year's stories on
a book shelf for the children to read. The children often choose these
books to read during D.E.A.R time. It is wonderful to see how your
child’s writing changes over the course of three years.
Have a great weekend,
Amy and Rachel
