Dear RiverRun Families,
We
had another wonderful week, full of learning and friendship. All the children are working hard in all areas
of the curriculum. We took a closer look
at Moss, our new Beta Fish. We learned
about the different types of fins and their purpose. We tried to locate these fins on Moss. You may be wondering how Moss got her name. We had a class meeting to vote on a name for
our new fish. If you know Parker, then
you know she likes moss and has spread her interest to the rest of the
class. So now we have a fish named Moss.
Wednesday
night we had our first Parent Education meeting. I hope it was worthwhile for the parents who
were able to attend. We covered a lot of
information including some on the life of Maria Montessori. Montessori spent most of her adult life
advocating for Peace and trying to lay out the path we will need to take to get
there. She knew that children would be the
ones taking us closer to this goal and how we educate children played an
important role in getting them ready to create this new kind of world. Although it was a great evening, next time we
will build a break into the evening to keep our energy up.
Thanks
to Emily for giving us a bag full of dried corn which we have been trying to
pop. We have had a lot of “old maids”, or kernels that refuse to pop. Upon suggestion from The Popcorn Book,
by Tomie De Paola, we are moistening the kernels in the refrigerator and will
try again.
Over
Thanksgiving break I will be out of town.
I need help caring for our pets Lizzy and Moss. If someone close by can stop in the class
during the morning hours and care for them that would be great. If not, they can be transported to someone’s
home for the week.
