Dear Families:
We launched our rockets!
It was an amazing experience.
Every rocket successfully left the launch pad and soared hundreds of
feet into the atmosphere. Three of our
rockets were caught by the wind and carried by parachute out of our reach. We’re waiting for the two that are stuck in
trees to fall, but one jet black Generic model flew over the tree tops into the
next neighborhood. We didn’t think to
put our names on our rockets, so it’s probably lost. We joked about solving the trigonometry
problem that Homer Hickam solved in October Sky to find one of his
missing rockets. The rest of us are
bringing our rockets home. We say thank
you to Dan, Luke’s dad, for teaching us about rocketry and for spending time to
guide us through the construction of our rockets. Dan also made our launch day perfect by
providing the launch pad and his experience.
We are writing compare/contrast essays for our novel
study. We have generated a list of
traits for the siblings Laura and Bert Eastman, characters in Freedom Crossing. We created a frame for our essays
together. We will each continue to write
our essays in our own words next week.
Getting together as a school community is always
something we enjoy. Therefore, we are
attempting to organize an evening for conversation and a simple meal. We have tentatively scheduled Wednesday,
December 19 as the date. We will be sure
to finalize our plans by early next week.
We’ll keep you posted!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Debbie & Crew
