Dear River Run Families,
All the children love DEAR time (Drop Everything and Read), which we have daily at 11:45. If they are reading a book at home they are welcome to bring it in and read during DEAR time.

This weekend at Fort Edward, Lake George, they are having a re-enactment of the
French and Indian war at 2:00 on Saturday. My children love history, we will be there.
Have a great weekend. Amy

This week we were busy working on our first special lunch – the Mooncake Celebration (as the children named it). We learned more about the Chinese Moon Festival, made Chinese lanterns, and planned out a lunch for students and guests. Everyone played an active role in the food preparations and we all enjoyed sharing this lunch together. Next Friday, October 1st, will once again be a Pizza Friday so if your child is interested you may send in $1/slice for either one or two slices of pizza on Friday.
The students continued to research their bird of choice this week as well as learn about features of all birds (egg to chick process, flight of birds, body structure, habitat, etc.).
We also found time for a lesson on hand stitching in which Mary Kaye instructed us in how to sew on a button. Several elder students sewed up our classroom pillows (which had stuffing coming out) and some students began to work on making a bookmark. As this was the first sewing exposure for many students, we’ll be practicing hand stitching again.

Thank you for continuing to work with your child to help them learn the months of the year and their own address and phone number. We touch on that in class now and again for reinforcement. In ASL we are learning about colors and foods – ask your child if they can tell you the color of their shirt!
Upcoming Dates to Note:
