Dear River Run Families,
Wow, this week went by fast. We have been very busy getting to know each other and establishing a routine. This week we talked as a group about the history of math and we continued to read The Fantastic Flying Journey. Lessons were given throughout the week in all areas of the curriculum, which has allowed me to become familiar with your children’s many abilities. It has been a great week. I look forward to talking with everyone at parent /teacher conferences.
If you need to reach me during the school week, I will be available between 12:30-1:30 at the school (937-9338) or by email at spoole2@nycap.rr.com.
Enjoy your weekend,
Amy Poole

We’ve had another fun week of new activities and learning. Some of the highlights include; creating bird mosaics, having a Walk-Around-The-Sun celebration for Nicholas, mapping out our Capital Region communities (and our place in them), and walking to Steinmetz park where students gathered items from nature, observed signs of autumn and enjoyed more playground equipment.
We’ve been learning our months of the year as well as our personal address and phone number. Please reinforce these concepts at home by asking your child to sing the months of the year song and/or quizzing them to help them memorize this information.
As the days are getting cooler, we encourage students to bring a light jacket in to school for use at recess and for community walks. Please talk with your child about your expectations for them regarding wearing their jacket. While students will be asked to bring their jacket along outside, they will get to decide whether or not to wear it. Natural consequences will remind the child to wear it when they are cold and not to when they are warm.
I also wanted to let you know that we are in need of a new CD player for the classroom (for use at music time). If any of you has an old, but useable, CD player that you’d be willing to donate, please let me know. We would really appreciate it.
Upcoming Dates to Note:
Our students are planning a special lunch for next Friday, 9/24. As part of this lunch, students will share in the planning, cooking/preparing, and serving of the group lunch. You do not need to send a packed lunch on Friday, 9/24. Instead, we ask that each family contribute $5/student to cover the costs of ingredients. Please send this monetary contribution into school in a sealed, marked envelope by Tuesday, 9/21. As always all families are welcome to join the RR students on Fridays for recess/lunch time from 12-1PM.
There is no school on Friday, October 8th as it is our Parent/Teacher Conference Day. Please plan to sign up for a 30 minute conference session, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on that day. You can schedule your conference by calling RR Board Member Jacqui Foster at 382-5982.
