Friday Letter - 09.10.2010

September 10, 2010

Dear River Run Families,

I have been enjoying getting to know your children and slowly assessing what they have worked on in the past and mastered and which lessons I will be giving them.   I have been working on getting in a good amount of lessons so they will have a variety of material to choose from.

Next week we will have a full week of learning and using all the wonderful material we have.

It has been a pleasure working with Mary Kay and Nancy.  We have been keeping in close contact in order to have a nice flow to the classroom.

Have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to working with your children on Monday.

I’ve also enjoyed spending time with your children this week.  During the afternoons, our schedule is roughly like this:

12:30-1:00 lunch
1:00-1:15 American Sign Language (ASL) group lesson
1:15 – 2:00 Studio time (art, music, physical activities (at least 2x weekly), and other hands-on activities)
2:00 – 2:45 Either Writing Activities (approximately 2x weekly) or Student Interest Project work (approximately 3x weekly)
2:45-3:00 Read Aloud and Dismissal

In addition to discussing classroom rules and procedures, the students participated in soccer drills, a collage art project, music time, and ASL.  Ask your child to introduce themselves to you in sign!  We also started our first Student Interest Projects, with each student choosing a bird they wanted to learn more about.

A few reminders:
*Please send in utensils and a placemat with your child’s lunch.
*We need sneakers at school daily.
*Please be in the habit of checking the take home folder nightly and having it return to school daily.
If you need to reach me, the best way to communicate with me is via email
(wadis@nycap.rr.com) or by calling me in the classroom (937-9338) between 3:00 and
3:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday or Fridays.  You can also send a note into school and I
will be in touch with you as soon as possible.

Finally, next Friday will be our first Pizza Friday (others will be announced as they are
scheduled).  Students who are interested in ordering a slice (or two) of pizza at $1 each
should bring the money into school on Friday morning.  If you are planning to join your child
for recess/lunch on Friday and would like pizza, just include $1/slice for yourself as well.
(All families are welcome to join the RR students on Fridays for recess/lunch time from
12-1PM).
