Dear RiverRun
Families,
Every
afternoon we have been working on El
Mago de Oz. The children are
learning their lines and working on blocking (when to come in with their line
and where to be when on stage). I hope
you are all having fun coming up with costume ideas. Fatima has brought in many books for the
children to see how different artists have illustrated the characters over the
years. Most of us picture the characters
as they are in the film, but we can have the flexibility to be creative.
I want to thank Camar, Evio’s
mother, who has been coming in to volunteer on a consistent basis to help with
the play. Jessica has spent a lot of
time re-writing the play, making it easier for us. I hope her transliterations
are helping you at home. Stephanie,
Natalie’s mom, is also coming in to help.
We really appreciate volunteering your time.
A few children decided they are
interested in researching an animal.
This has caught on and now many children are interested in research of
their own. If your child wants to bring
some books from home we can keep them separate from the school books while they
are using them for their reports.
The Second and Third Years have been working on fractions using fraction circles. They are looking at fraction families and
have learned how to make wholes out of parts of the circle families. They have also had lessons on multiplying large numbers by a single
digit multiplier using the Stamp Game. The First Years are working on their
comprehension skills and grammar.
The Upper El dissected goat eyes and
squid this week. Gregg, Nathaniel’s
dafu, volunteered and worked with them.
He let us see the squid and told us a bit about squid prior to the
dissection.
May this be a peaceful weekend,
Amy and Rachel
