Lower Elementary Newsletter - April 24, 2015

Dear RiverRun Families,

The Authors’ Tea is approaching.  Below is the schedule for the day your child will be presenting.  We would love you to come both days to listen to all the wonderful stories the children have authored, but realize your busy schedules may not allow this.  Eliana, Arielle, and Nathaniel will be presenting last on Friday because their siblings will present first in our Upper Elementary classroom.  We plan to start reading at 9:15.

We have been working on illustrating for our Tea this week and have continued to talk about numbers and how ancient civilizations developed different systems to record numbers.  The ancient Greeks took their word for five (penta) and made their symbol for it their letter P.  The ancient Romans had no symbol for zero, this made it difficult to use place value to write large numbers.  No wonder Roman Numerals are not common today!
