December 6, 2013
Dear RiverRun Families,
I hope
everyone enjoyed their time off. The
children really enjoy seeing each other and sharing their stories after a
break. As a community we have been
preparing for a visit (you!). We have
chosen some recipes and have been working on our presentation. You will surely enjoy this evening and we
look forward to spending time with you.
As we
prepare for the community gathering this upcoming Thursday December 12th, I would like to ask that you please send
in an apron for your child to use on Wednesday and Thursday. Please put it in their school bags. The children also need to keep their hair
covered as they will be working in the kitchen.
The Department of Health overlooks the school building kitchen and we
need to follow their guidelines. A
baseball hat would be fine. If you have
not yet done so, please send in money for anyone attending that is not a
student at RiverRun. The cost is
$5/person.
This week we
have been talking about maps. The oldest
map found dated back about 4,000 years.
It was a clay tablet from the Babylonians and it depicted a man’s
estate. We looked at projection maps and
how they distort the land. They are,
however, super useful because of their convenience. They are portable and can be compiled in books.
We talked about how such books are called an Atlas – a name derived from the
Greek myth of Titan Atlas.
Again, we
look forward to feeding and entertaining you next week.
Best Wishes,
Amy
