Dear RiverRun
Families,
Once
again the children have done a fabulous job of coming together to raise money
for those affected by Super Storm Sandy.
Last Friday and this past Monday the children worked tirelessly making starfish conversation starters for
Thanksgiving tables. They took turns
standing out in the foyer on Election Day to asked voters to donate money. They were polite, engaging and cute. We have sent home packets of the starfish
will all the children so they can share their work with you and your friends
and families. A donation of $1,564.03
was sent to the Red Cross via WAMC/NPR.
They had a fund drive yesterday morning and the children’s efforts were
announced on the air by Alan Chartock.
They were able to hear it being announced as they arrived to school! Thank you to Rachael (before care staff),
Heidi, Nathaniel, Juliana and Fatima for all their help with this fund drive.
On
Wednesday we had our first Open House.
A nice group of people showed up.
The children were very busy at work, so the visitors got to see a typical
productive work day. The Elders had a
lesson on multiplying large numbers using the Golden Beads, and they have been
working on memorizing subtraction facts. The Middles had a lesson on compound words and
the Subtraction Bingo Board. The History
of Writing work continues to be of high interest for all. I’m sure it must be curious for our guests to
walk into a classroom and see children using a stick and decomposing walnut to
draw cave style paintings. Thank you to Ruth, Jennifer, and Juliana for working
the Open House.
I
hope that any of your families or friends who have been affected by Sandy are
doing well.
Best Wishes,
Amy Poole
