Friday Letter - 04.27.2012

4/27/12

Dear RiverRun Families,

This week we continued to study flowers. Many made books on the parts of a flower, and that work was extended by giving the children an opportunity to work with real flowers. My local florist, Ambitions, on Everette Road, donated two large bouquets for us to use. The opportunity for the children to pull flowers apart, knowing that they were allowed and encouraged to do so, has been interesting to observe.

In keeping with the theme of nature during Writer's Workshop, the children had a lesson on writing a Haiku. This is a fun format for poetry. They all wrote fantastic poems. I will encourage them to take them home to share.

Our trip to Merry Hill will be on Tuesday, May 1st. If you plan to attend, please let us know. Also, have the children dress appropriately. If they have rain boots, they should wear them. We will be outside, so if the temperature remains as it has been this week, they should dress warm.
