Dear RiverRun Families,
This has been very short week. I have continued to read a book on the life of Martin Luther King Jr. which is well written for children. Measurement activities continue as well. The children have been exploring volume using water and different containers found in our homes. I am starting to present lessons on the Work of Air/Weather. On Thursday I demonstrated that air takes up space and we read a little about air and weather. We will continue to work on this topic throughout the month.
Best wishes and stay warm,
Amy

This week we began lessons on use of the new computer in our classroom. Students were introduced to home row typing work, opening a blank document, and how to save their work on their own folder. Small group lessons will continue to be given to build on these skills. We now have a computer schedule which helps us distribute time on the classroom computer. Each student gets a twenty-minute timeslot twice per week to use the computer, if they choose.
As a group we are continuing our studies of New York State and are working to create timelines and summaries of things we learn about. These will be on display at our upcoming Gallery Showcase and Parent Education on Thursday, February 10th from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
Please join me in welcoming Abigail Poole to RiverRun. With the addition of this first year student, our class size has grown to twelve. You may have the opportunity to welcome her yourself if you are able to join us on Thursday for our group meal in the RiverRun classroom at 12:30 p.m. The students will be preparing wraps and soups, with the guidance of Debbie Proulx. Families are invited to attend. Please send $5 per student and $1 for each guest in a labeled envelope in your child’s folder on Monday. Thank you.
Have a nice weekend,
Nancy Adis
