Dear RiverRun Families,
This week the students spent some more time on data collection, voting, and graphing. Different groups made line graphs and line plots. We wrote thank you letters and started working on reading and learning from biographies. We discussed the adventures of Lewis and Clark, the Native Americans, and the settlement of America.
Many students made a beaded feather craft which was inspired by a model Denise Watso shared with the class during her visit last week. (Thanks for giving the students those feathers, Denise!) A few students plotted the locations of our upcoming field trips on the map outside the classroom. Another student did some woodworking tasks to help repair a classroom table. And all the students have been hearing about the adventures of Ramona Quimby during our afternoon read aloud time.
After a class vote, the movie “Shrek the Halls” has been chosen as the movie to be played at the RiverRun Movie Night at the Foster’s residence on Saturday, December 4th. Please RSVP to Teresa Foster by Wednesday, 12/1, to let her know if you are able to attend. (More information can be found on our blog at http://www.riverruncommunitymontessori.blogspot.com/ for those who missed the original announcement.)
Please note that the class photos will be reprinted to have the correct title of RiverRun Community Montessori on them (not St. Anthony’s Preschool). All proofs are due back to school on Monday, November 29th, whether you are ordering or not. Please be sure to make a decision on that this weekend.
Also, on Monday, November 29th, check your child’s folder as the student assessment narratives will be going home that day. (These narratives go home twice a year – now and again at the end of the school year.)
And there’s one more thing to send in Monday. The permission slips for the NYS Museum Field Trip (on Wednesday, 12/8/10) were due back today and several are missing. If you’ve already sent it in to school, thank you. If not, please do so on Monday. Also, I would ask that you consider trying to make yourself available to drive some of our students for this field trip if possible. We so much depend on the parent drivers and have relied on the same few very often. We understand it may not be possible for all, but if it’s possible for you, please let us know that! Thanks.
With Thanksgiving almost upon us, I want to mention that I’m thankful to have such a dedicated group of people working to foster the success of RiverRun. Thank you to the board of trustees, the founding families, the parent drivers for field trips, the parents who take on volunteer roles, the supportive staff, the families who’ve enrolled their children at RiverRun, and the children who come to class each day ready to learn and experience new things!
Thanks to all of you. Nancy Adis
