Dear RiverRun Families,
The past two weeks were full of learning. We have been spending time on grammar skills, math facts, land and water forms. I look forward to seeing many of you at our parent education night to share with you a lesson I have done with your children.
On October 29th I will be cooking with the children and hope that those parents who are able, will join us. Details on what we will be cooking will be in next week’s letter home.
The children have been learning about and collecting leaves in celebration of fall. Let’s hope for some sun this weekend so that the children can continue to study leaves with you.

Even though it was the second short week in a row, we have experienced many things in the RiverRun classroom since I last wrote to you. On Wednesday we welcomed our first community visitor of the school year when Firefighter Jim Colose from the Schenectady Fire Department joined us to share fire safety information with the class. This visit also provided the opportunity for a lesson on writing thank you letters.
We were able to get outside for our field trip to Indian Ladder Farms and for a brisk walk to Steinmetz Park where we collected and identified fall leaves and enjoyed recess on the park equipment.
We finished up our student interest projects on birds, learned about the explorations of Christopher Columbus, experimented with music making while making a basic string instrument, and explored paper mosaics in art.
We continued learning about maps by making treasure maps and plotting out our routes to off-site activities. We also mapped out our fire evacuation route at school. Today we discussed the lines of longitude and latitude on the globe.
Upcoming Dates:
