On Wednesday, Schenectady Firefighter Jim Colose spoke to the RiverRun students about fire safety. He talked about what to do when you smell smoke or hear an alarm, how to get out, and to stay out. He discussed calling 9-1-1 and always getting yourself out (not worrying about possessions or even pets)!
Jaden checks out how heavy the oxygen tank is.
Grace demonstrated the Stop-Drop-Roll technique which is done (with face covered) if fire is on your body.
He showed us his uniform/gear and discussed the important job firefighters have.
He sent the students off with the "homework" job of keeping their own home fire safe by alerting adults to any lighters or matches they see that are not put away out of reach. Families should also discuss their fire evacuation plan with their children.
